About me

Hello! I’m Francisco Reche. A lover of change, I’ve studied Marine and Environmental Sciences, worked at the FAO, completed a master’s in entrepreneurship and another in food culture. Recently, I was a finalist at the World Food Forum for an educational project I began designing several years ago.

I haven’t always had a clear path in life, but I’ve always known I want to do something meaningful. Sometimes we feel lost in the moment, but looking back, we can trace our journey and give it a narrative. Here’s mine.

Guiding Influences

During my last years of high school, I hadn’t even considered going to university, let alone what to study. It was a teacher (E. Toba), with her captivating clases on biology and earth sciences, who increased my interest in these subjects.

I decided to study Marine and Environmental Sciences, which took me from Algeciras to Puerto Real (Cádiz), where I met people and had experiences that changed my life forever.

Exploring the World

One of those people (M. Cabello) inspired me to study abroad. I’d never thought about it, but she convinced me it was the best thing I could do and encouraged me to choose a country as different from Spain as possible. That’s how I ended up spending the next year in Uppsala, Sweden. I loved the experience so much that, scholarship after scholarship, I also studied in Florianópolis (Brazil) and Barcelona.

An Unexpected Dream

During my final year of university, I began to wonder what I would do next. I wondered how people managed to work in places like the United Nations. As luck would have it, the university sent an email offering a scholarship to work in Rome as a technical assistant at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the FAO and WFP.

After ten months as an assistant, I joined a small team within the FAO, where I worked for over two years on projects like the 2015 International Year of Soils and initiatives involving Indigenous Peoples.

Taking Charge

Change is wonderful—and necessary. Perspectives, opinions, tastes… everything evolves.

Even though working at an organization like the FAO had been my greatest aspiration, I felt there was a significant disconnect between the incredible work these institutions do and what reaches people in their daily lives. I wanted to bridge that gap, to do something with a more direct impact.

I decided to explore entrepreneurship. My partner, whom I met in Rome, greatly influenced me with his worldview and experience as an entrepreneur.

So, I left Rome and returned to Spain, where I began attending courses and talks on entrepreneurship. I then completed a Master’s in entrepreneurship in Cádiz, with the idea of opening a food store to promote healthier and more sustainable eating habits.

Changing Course

In addition to the master’s, I participated in exchange and entrepreneurship programs in Copenhagen (Denmark), Sydney (Australia), and Tence (France), working on projects similar to what I had in mind. I concluded that the impact I could have with a food store would be limited and not the best way to achieve my goal.

One day, connecting ideas, I decided to revisit something from my childhood: collectible card games. I thought about using them as a tool to communicate the added value of my original idea: to visually convey the incredible diversity of food and the benefits of a healthy diet.

A New Chapter

With this new project in mind, I I completed a Master’s in Management and Innovation in Food Culture, where I presented this project as my final thesis. Since then, the initial idea has evolved thanks to the advice of many people.

After taking courses on board games design, joining the Incubazul project incubator, and testing the prototype at board game fairs around Spain, in 2024 I became a finalist in the educational projects competition at the World Food Forum, which will lead me to present it at the United Nations.

This is an important milestone, but I hope it’s not the last. My goal isn’t just to create another educational game, but to drive change. I want to empower children and families to make more conscious, healthy, and sustainable food choices, contributing to a better future for all.

Will you join me?
